{% hint style="info" %}
The page has a video that explains the information located at the bottom of the page.
{% endhint %}

### Navigate to login screen

To get to the login screen of any GovCMS website, type the website’s URL and add /user/login on the end.

**For example**: <https://www.govcms.gov.au/user/login>

Next, if you have a valid and active account for the website, enter your information and select **Log in**.

### Shield protection

Training environments (and some websites test environments) may be protected by **shield authentication**, which means you’ll see a popup window with the username and password fields. You need to enter the **shield's** username and password **BEFORE** you can enter your personal login details.

{% hint style="info" %}
The shield username and password are **different** to your individual username and password. If you don't know the shield login details, contact your Site Administrator.
{% endhint %}

### Training environment details

In preparation for training, you should have received an email with information about the course.

The email includes:

* The URL for your own personal training environment
* The shield username and password
* An email confirming your account login details.

If you haven't received this information, please notify your trainer.

### Login to your training environment

Navigate to the training environment URL provided in your welcome email. You will be presented with the shield popup as described above. Enter the details found in your email.

You should now see the GovCMS login screen (as shown in the screenshot at the top of this page). Enter your username and password and sign in.

* **Username**: Refer to the email sent to you prior to the course
* **Password**: The password you set after clicking on the one-time login link from the email.

After successfully logging in, you'll be redirected to a page prompting you to set up two-factor authentication (2FA), which is covered in the next section.

Welcome to the GovCMS Introduction to Content Management series. In this video, you'll learn how to log in to a GovCMS website.

To log in to most GovCMS sites, all you need to do is go to the website, then add /user to the URL, then put in your username and password, and click on Login. Let me now demonstrate. First, I'll go to the login page by going to /user. I'll enter in my GovCMS username and password and click on Login.

I just want to take a moment to mention that by now you should be using two-factor authentication to log in to GovCMS.

This is one of the most effective controls you have to prevent unauthorized access to accounts on your website. A video on how to log in using two-factor authentication will be available soon. In the meantime, instructions on how to enable two-factor authentication are available through the service desk. Let's continue.

I know I've logged in because I've been redirected to the profile page, which has my username right here, and if I have access to the admin toolbar, I'll see it up the top here. While you're logged into the site, you'll always see the admin toolbar, which is a good indication that you're logged in.

And if I go to any of these pages, I still see the admin toolbar.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://salsa-digital.gitbook.io/govcms-content-administration/logging-in-2fa-and-the-admin-interface/logging-in.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
