## Welcome to the Introduction to Content Management training manual for GovCMS

This manual provides a clear, practical guide for creating, editing, managing and maintaining content on GovCMS websites. It's written for Content Authors and Content Approvers working on both GovCMS SaaS and PaaS platforms. The aim is to support everyday publishing tasks while keeping responsibilities separated from more advanced content editing and technical administration tasks.

The structure reflects current GovCMS best practice and Drupal 11 functionality. All instructions are theme‑agnostic unless noted otherwise.

Optional content is included for websites using CivicTheme.

Each section includes practical explanations and, where applicable, exercises to reinforce learning. To get the most of out of the practical exercises, make sure you have access to a GovCMS feature environment or a local instance of your website.

Additional documentation can be found in the [GovCMS Knowledge Base](https://www.govcms.support/support/solutions) articles via the [GovCMS Service Desk](https://govcms.freshdesk.com/).

{% hint style="info" %}
The training manual is intended as a companion piece to the remote or in-person GovCMS training, as such there are specific call-outs to the GovCMS training program.

However, the majority of the information in the training manual is applicable outside of the training.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://salsa-digital.gitbook.io/govcms-content-administration/readme.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
